FOX TALES ON STAMPS

London 2010

In case you don't already know, Andrew and I have spent the last two weeks in London UK and environs attending the London 2010 Festival of Stamps as well as the preceding Philatex Extra. The Philatex Extra was held at the Royal Horticultural Halls on May 5th and 6th.
There were more than a smattering of Canadians attending the events including our friend Bill Pawluk who we chatted with while awaiting the opening of the doors.
The London 2010 "main event" began on the 8th of May at the London Design Centre facility. We ran into Vancouverite and longtime BC Phil member Duff Malkin at the front entrance.
The natural light in the main hall was quite nice but some of the booths in the surrounding gallery were a tad dark for stamp viewing needs. The show floor was never too crowded although attendance numbers seemed steady.
Here's me playing Watson to a couple of Holmesies. I'm not exactly sure what they were looking for but they seemed quite interested when I mentioned to them that Moriarty Philatelics was at Booth 162
At the Revenue Collectors Society booth Andrew ran into Bill Bartlett, intrepid paraphilatelist extraordinaire and fellow Victorian. Bill was looking for exotic revenue documents.
In addition to the hundreds of world class international level philatelic exhibits on display, there were nearly 150 booth holders at the London 2010 Festival of Stamps. These included Philatelic Agencies, clubs and societies, auction houses plus a full range of small to international level dealers. Here I am at booth 74 with George Holschauer of the well known Colonial Stamp Company.
We met and did a bit of socialising with Andrew Scott. Andrew is a BC writer and historian as well as a keen and knowledgeable collector of British Columbia postal history. See our April 30th newsletter to read one of his articles.
